There will be no changes to the voting system for the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) 2025. Since last year, the semifinals have been entirely decided by the public vote, while the final follows a 50/50 split between public voting and national jury voting.
As expected, given its crucial role in determining the results, the voting system remains a hot topic among fans – especially since, for the past two years, the winner was not the public’s favorite.
Tomislav Štengl, Croatia’s head of delegation and a member of the Reference Group, confirmed in an interview with broadcaster HRT that the voting system will stay the same:
– Different combinations have been tried in the Eurovision Song Contest. We’ve had only jury, then only public voting, and now half-and-half jury and public. There is always some flaw; it can’t be perfect for everyone. For two years now, the public’s favorite has finished second. However, the EBU’s [European Broadcasting Union] position at this time is that nothing will change. The 50/50 principle between jury and public will remain”.
