Picture credits: © Alma Bengtsson / EBU The 2024 edition of the MTV European Music Awards took place this Sunday in Manchester, with several artists connected to the Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) receiving awards.
Among the winners was Nemo, who won the ESC 2024 for Switzerland with the song The Code. At the EMAs, he took home the award for Best Swiss Act, competing against Benjamin Amaru, Faber, Priya Ragu, and Stress.
Noa Kirel, Israel’s representative in 2023, won Best Israeli Act, beating out Agam Buhbut, Anna Zak, Shahar Saul, and Shahar Tavoch. Meanwhile, Slimane, France’s 2024 representative, was among the nominees for Best French Act, but the award went to Pierre Garnier.
A notable highlight was the Best Italian Act category, where all nominees had ties to the ESC, either as participants or through Italy’s national selection, Festival di Sanremo. The award went to Annalisa (Sanremo 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2021, and 2024), while the other nominees included Angelina Mango (Italy’s 2024 representative), Mahmood (2019 and 2022), Ghali (Sanremo 2024), and The Kolors (Sanremo 2018 and 2024).
For Best Spanish Act, one of the contenders was Ana Mena, who has also competed in Festival di Sanremo. The award was won by Lola Índigo, with Belén Aguilera, Dani Fernández, and Mikel Izal also in the running.
Finally, Best Portuguese Act was awarded to Bárbara Bandeira. Other nominees included Bárbara Tinoco (Festival da Canção 2020 and 2023), Dillaz, Ivandro (Festival da Canção 2023), and Slow J.
