The format of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest (JESC) 2024 opening ceremony has been changed following the tragic impact of storm Dana in the Valencia region, which resulted in hundreds of fatalities.

According to escplus.es, citing the host broadcaster RTVE, the opening ceremony will now be a private event, held behind closed doors. There will be no broadcast or public attendance, with access limited to participating delegations, authorities, RTVE, and the European Broadcasting Union (EBU).

Additionally, the planned Opening Party on November 10 has been adapted into a simple reception for participants.

The main event for JESC 2024 remains on schedule. Seventeen countries are set to participate, with the show scheduled for November 16 at 18:00 (CET time) at the Caja Mágica in Madrid.
